  • @zliminator We used a WHOI acoustic modem for our AUV.

If I remember correctly, they are extremely pricey (~$15k). We were using the moos-ivp software for all communication with the acoustic modem. If your vehicle is an ROV, then it is tethered anyway and maybe you wouldn't need to get an acoustic modem? The data packets have also be really small because since it is sound waves underwater, they can get corrupted easily.

  • Really? Could you buy an acoustic modem off-the-shelf at say, BestBuy? What's the max baud rate? It would be cool to have an underwater ROV that could do video. You must have your own protocol to give it commands. Or is it just TCPIP?

  • @zliminator Nope. We actually outfitted it with an acoustic modem at one point so that we could communicate underwater. We lose wireless connectivity as soon as it dives.

  • Does the wireless work when it dives?
