In this video i'm showing how to make Iron (II) Sulfide (FeS) by the element sulfur and black iron powder...
The reaction are pretty easy Fe + S == FeS (The easy way ^_-)
Warning! In this reaction dangerous sulfide gases are produced, safety should be taken!
You have been warned!!
Enjoy and comment on if you wonder =D
Iron sulfide can also be found in nature, and you can easily recognized by tis yellow/gold-like color.

  • Actually, the iron sulfide in nature is different from what you made here. Natural pyrite is FeS2, whereas what you made is FeS.

  • @MathDoobler hmm, I din't know, thanks for saying :)

  • @Bilbo940 hmm... should probably edit it....

    thanks for sharing :)

But SO2 can be further oxidized from SO2 to H2SO4, witch will make "acid rain" it happens usually in the presence of a catalyst such as NO2... ( its a problem when it comes to fossil burning, since the fossil oil contain a large amount of sulfur)

    If i'm not wrong?? =D

Yeah, i made some H2S and it did smell like hell! It sure makes a warning to you..

  • @ErikDIY np, but just so you know, sulfur dioxide is not a sulfide its a sulfur oxide.

It shouldn't release H2S if it is not in contact with any acids (like HCl) .

And no, so2 does not react with air :) Otherwise the entire human race would be pretty dead by now since h2s is extremly toxic. And don't worry about not detecting it, it has a distinct smell.

  • @Bilbo940 I was more referring to Sulfur dioxide SO2....I don't know if i will react with the hydrogen in the air to form H2S??

BTW; sorry for the mistake :)

  • @ErikDIY it says though in the description that dangerous sulfide gases are produced. Hydrogen sulfide being the only non-organic sulfide gas that I can think of I thought you were refering to it.

  • @Bilbo940 I did not say that?

I sad that i'm going to make another video on how to make hydrogen sulfide (H2S) By iron sulfide....

  • h2s created?
