I discovered my first binary star system almost immediately after exiting from my first wormhole travel. After getting over the fact that I had just travel directly across the galaxy center to the other side, I noticed this odd blob like star.

At first I was thinking, hmm maybe this could be a star about to go nova (wouldn't that have been cool)! So I went right over to investigate and to my surprise saw that it was a binary star system!

I am an astronomy masters student right now, so needless to say I was excited to see they included stuff like this. Very happy to see that the orbits and everything were spot on too.

I wondered why I didn't get a special badge added to my trophy section, but when I went to look later I noticed that it had secretly added one for my discovery.

Also, it not only added a badge for a binary star- it specified what type (in this case OO type). So this must mean there are binaries of various sized/colored stars to be discovered. More importantly the fact there are badges for these must mean they are somewhat rare, even though in the real universe they are the norm.

  • so theres 2 stars together in 1 system or something

  • yes, two stars in one system. They are kinda easy to spot from the galaxy screen once you know what to look for. They look like two stars that are just ridiculously close together.

  • binary stars are more often found the closer you are to the center of the galaxy, where stars are born. I've read that there exists, 3 even 4 suns in the same system, I bet the newest, earliest stars group like that :)
