Dale Watson - "From The Cradle To The Grave"

Dale Watson is a Texas music hero. Over his long and prolific career, he's proven himself to be one of the last authentic voices in pure country music. In fact, in the spirit of the music's outlaw lineage, Dale has disavowed himself of the country label and begun calling his music Ameripolitan. In his own words: "I've been trying to come up with a name the best describes this music that me and folks similar do. When folks ask, I hesitate, down right embarrassed really, to say country. I didn't used to be that way, but with the change in country music, the term doesn't mean the same as it used to. If you say traditional, or old, or western swing most folks think 'retro' and dismiss it without hearing it. I wanted a name that didn't say country anything and didn't give anyone a preconceived idea. I came up with Ameripolitan."

However it might be described, on his latest album, From The Cradle To The Grave, it's the music that speaks the loudest. Marking his HYENA Records debut, Dale offers ten new songs that range from the epic "Justice For All" to the achingly beautiful ballad, "It's Not Over Now." And if it sounds like Johnny Cash's presence is looming over the recordings, that's because it was. The album was recorded in Cash's old Tennessee Mountain cabin that was lent to Dale by its current owner Johnny Knoxville. With that in mind, Dale embraced the Cash aura and in the process turned out one of his best albums to date in an already impressive discography.

  • We have known Dale for the past 28 years. From his early roots in Pasadena, Texas at the Swinging Doors to where he is now. Band members may have changed but he's the same now as he was then. A great friend whom we'll always love and repect.

  • He always plays up at Lee's Liquor Lounge in Minneapolis. What a great show and a great guy. You can always go up a request a song or talk to him before his set. Just amazing. I also love Junior Brown who plays over at First Avenue just down the block.

  • that's a hell of a story! lol I have to say if I ever go to jail I hope it would be with someone like Buck Owens!

  • God bless Dale!

  • i grew up with stories of my mother sitting on stage with Bob Wills and his band watching my grandparents danced in a bar in Bakersfield and the band members watched them while the folks went out for drinks in the parking lot and of the night my grandfather spent in jail with Buck Owens I thought that those legends that played real country music had long passed away Iamnow a big fan and now know that country music will never die Thank you Dale for an evening of awakening God Bless You

  • I have had the honor of seeing him and his band play live about 5 times in this past year. Every show just seems better than the one before it. My only regret is that I can't see them more often!!! Not only is his music incredible but Dale is the most down to earth and truly nice person and will hang around and talk to anyone and everyone after the show!!
