how to color grade in sony vegas tutorial

In this tutorial, I will be showing how to color grade your videos to look like film.
The most important to notice is that when color grading, you don't want to go too in to the effect. Sometimes our eyes tricks, which means we will tend to get used with the look while not even noticing that effect has gone place.

Make sure you keep going back and forth of the original image.

Sony vegas is not for color corrections or color grading
its most of basic cuts and composing
Make sure you research more on colors
and learn more out of that then here

One thing to keep in mind is that colors can change moods
make sure you know what you are after
keep doing the method of pushing and pulling
to go what you are after.
Color grading is trial and error

One great tip for filming is have great lighting
and keep details on the highlights and the low
By doing that you can go further while color correcting

Please check out red giant software's site
and their tutorial for more better knowledge

Thanks for watching

  • we need the exact aspect ratio to be set as movies and how to do it this way is not precise

  • @vittogol well, you can do the math. some i know are 2.4 or 2.35. in after effects, you can create using a plug-in, however in vegas you just have to guess or overlay an aspect ratio bars on top

  • Thanks!!! : )

  • do you use any other programs besides sony vegas, too?

and thanks for the tutorial, i learned something new i can use.

  • Can u do the color grading of the film man on fire or domino ...thanks

  • Your videos are very helpful just getting started with this stuff. One thing doesn't make sense - why would you apply the crop as a plugin rather than assigning a specific aspect ratio during rendering. If all your clips are default 16:9 but you want the final to be 1.85:1 1920x 1037 then 28 pixels would be clipped from top and bottom. if you want 2.35:1 1920x817 then 132 pixel would be cut off from top/bottom. Please advise.

  • So you added bars and took most of the color out. Film look is about lighting, depth of field, FPS and the quality of the footage. You can do all of the color grading in the world but it wont give you that real film look. Also with color grading, it all depends on the art direction/ type of film your making.

  • @vittogol You don't have to guess at all, You can crop the exact aspect ratio for movies or you can add black bars on top and bottom.

  • Excellent

  • thank you so much for the tutorial!! it was great, I learned a lot

  • WTF WERE U FUCKING DOING TIL 7:47!

  • Wow this video has a great audio quality,
