  • This video says that Dictionary of English Language (18 century) includes about 42000 words.

Russian dictionary of Vladimir Dal (made in 1860) includes about 200000 words.

    Just to troll :)

  • I learned more in 10 minutes than I did in 4 years of high school.

  • It's amazing how the English people don't realise they speak nearly half French. They still think, and many centuries after, that the hundred years' war was a battle between France and England as they were all French and Normans. The English people think it's England that gave the status of global language as first, it's a recent fact in history, see last 20th century, and it's mainly the americans. French was the most influential country before and still is today.

  • I don't mean to be a killjoy, but technically this is "The History of English in 11 Minutes and 21 Seconds". :)

  • Thank you, Vocabulogic, for sending me here!

  • Simply wonderful.

  • the english language is a mess. nothing is spelled how you hear it, rules seem random, the same letters placed in the same spot are read differently, and it includes french words for some reason. difently one of the hardest languages to learn.

  • Fantastic! Witty and accurate and hugely entertaining. Thank you OU!

  • @captainloobyloo Remains the question: who invented gibber gabber ?
