  • Our first book, The Essence of Tantric Sexuality, has just won the the USA Book News Best Books 2007 Award (Health: Sexuality category). It was also a finalist in Religion: Eastern Religions.

  • These people are indulging into money making and sensationalising Tantra and projecting it what it is not. Tantra is not Kaam Sootra. Tantra is visualisation and modelling the entire cosmos into which we as part of and menifestation of the cosmos and reflection of the larger model look into ourselves. If sex is symbolised as ceation, that is nearest to the truth, but sex seen merely as hedonistic activity, and practiced so in the name of "Nirvana" is just rediculious.

  • Tantra is an initiatory tradition, and the texts are not entirely transparent; their real value lies in the way a teacher elucidates them. For example, it's our understanding that "Veer" (hero) "Pashu" (beast) and "Divya" (spiritual person) don't really refer to three categories of human but to qualities that exist in each of us.

  • Thanks Bhadra for thoughtful, generally well-informed comments. We recognize that his perspective is one that's widely shared, but Tantra isn't monolithic nor moralistic. We teach with the blessings of our Guru and out of a desire to serve and enrich the lives of others. Nothing we teach is derived from the Kama Sutra, with which we have very limited familiarity. As for making money, there are many much easier ways to make far more of it.

  • The origins and histories of the various Indian spiritual traditions are highly contested. Advaita was systematized by Adi Shankaracharya (who also established the Dashanami orders) in the 8th-century CE. His Paramguru, Gaudapaada, probably lived in the 7th-century, about the same time or shortly after the first indisputably Tantric texts were written.

  • "The Yoga Sutras" were written approximately 1000 years before Shankaracharya.

There's a lot of overlap between Tantra and Yoga. Some texts such as the "Gheranda Samhita" partake of both traditions, but it's not accurate to contend that they're the same.

  • Depiction of females like this is clearly against the spirit of Tantra and merely low grade sensational gimmick.

Kindly practice kamasutra freely as Hindus did but do not call it Tamtric.

  • I enjoyed their book. It has some good suggestions, useful exercises and lovely stories.

It is not what it claims to be though (a substitute for personal guidance by someone who has completed their path) … as one wise Tibetan put it:

Without gurus, what are the use of books?

  • don't they ever fight?

  • These are better than average Tantric practitioners -- down-to-earth and common-sensical.

You can certainly do a lot worse than explore Tantric experience from their perspective.

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that their perspective is still very much Eastern-influenced . . . and as such may not be suitable for most Westerners.

It's especially tricky for women to appreciate that difference . . . even though they are ultimately most affected by it.

  • Surprisingly good questions.

  • Pam and Michael came to our school (Drew University) this spring and were fantastic. they are both so down to earth and since my time with them, i have had a great deal of interest in the tantra practice.

  • I love this philosophy thanks for sharing it.>

  • I think I will pick Qigong, meditation and tantra as the paths to spiritual empowerment

  • Check out their great books through Amazon - The Essence of Tantric Sexuality and their newest book, Tantra for Erotic Empowerment

  • well, i don't know about all that; however, Patricia sings like an angel. She is absolutely stunningly amazing!
