@XMatt69X but if you know that a major chord is made up from the 1st 3rd and 5th notes of a given scale you can play just about anything, well maybe not cos then you get 6th, minors 6thadded9ths sus4th etc. assuming you know the notes on the neck.... see, BORING but uesful and failing that there is alway tablature and what my awesome guitar dude said to me.. "fuck that, i just learned the chord shapes" dont get put off and dont get bored just keep practicing and you'll get there.

@CHEESYhairyGASH a step is 2 frets. 1st string 1st fret is a Fnote one step from that would be the 3rd fret a Gnote. a half step is one fret, so half from 1st fret would be 2nd fret which makes F#note. following this??? did'nt think so... it's all greek to me, but well worth learning.... when i started to play guitar i went mental on musical theory because it helps loads to know whats happening when you bash the strings. theres loads of books worth picking up, but be ready music theory is BORING

what does a step correspond to in frets? didnt study music, learning from scratch, this term is new to me and meaningless if not explained
