  • Have you tasted them all? Can you let me know which variety from Ison's taste best? Sweetest, Juiciest for fresh eating? Some say the Ison's doesn't taste good but is a good pollinator. Thanks!!

  • @kastnmagic For eating fresh I really like Darlene (1st) followed by Sweet Jenny and Pam. I rarely eat my Isons fresh unless they are very very ripe. Ison is an excellent pollinator and wine grape though. That being said I removed my Darlene because I could not get it to produce many grapes at all.

  • @toddrodrigue Have you tasted the Cowart, Black Beauty, Supreme or Big Red? How many of each or any variety do you suggest a family of 4 grow? I think we'll just make jam/jelly and use for fresh eating. I don't want too many, but I also don't want too few. Do you have a problem with birds eating your fruit? Also, how far apart do the plants and posts need to be spaced? ... THANK YOU for your advice! There isn't much detailed info about muscadines on YouTube.

  • @kastnmagic Cowart is OK fully ripe, Black Beauty is very good (can eat the skins too), Was not impressed with Supreme, and have not tasted big Red. I have 7 vines and in addition to making 40 gallons of wine and eating fresh, I still give away about 100lbs of fruit each year. I am a family of 4 as well.

  • @kastnmagic I have mine planted 10 ft apart and get good results. It is recommended to go 20 ft though. I personally do not have a problem with birds but my friend does.

I would recommend buying the muscadine booklet from Ison's nursery and it will tell you everything you want to know about muscadines, blackberries and blueberries.
