Why go to the Railway? For the majority of residents, It's (woaaaaahhhh too far) five to ten minutes walk. very few there anyhow, so might as well get a 4-pack and stay at home (cheaper my life!). There's 4 pubs central to the town so what's the point if one needs a change of scenery ever so often to drink a beer. Get real. A shame that it is, it was only a question of time, before time was called at the Railway. I will miss sitting outside with a beer soaking up the sun-rays though.

Well John, it is very sad I know. It was never packed though. The dear Railway was always on the edge of viability. Being tied, this pub could never make money. People do not realise how costly it is to run a pub. The majority of the 4K odd people who live in Whitchurch could not be bothered to walk to that pub especially if it was raining. I've drank in Whitchurch for 20 odd years and the answer was always the same i.e. "Can't be bothered." The Railway pub was always stuck out on a limb.
The application BDB/72095 to convert it into a temporary car park has been withdrawn by the applicant. There were 26 objections registered. The B&DBC has served notice on the developer to shut the site and fix the fence (it is too high for being beside a highway).
