Theatrical trailer for the 1951 screen classic, THE AFRICAN QUEEN, directed by John Huston and starring Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn and Robert Morely. After nearly two decades of working in films from everything to supporting roles to rugged leads, Humphrey Bogarrt won his only Oscar for this portray of C. Forester's gin-soaked skipper of a tiny African riverboat, "Charlie Allnut." During his career -- at one time he was the highest paid actor in Hollywood -- he received only two additional "Best Actor" Academy Award nominations: CASABLANCA (1943) and THE CAINE MUTINY (1954). He was overlooked entirely for what may have been his finest screen performance, that of the malicious "Fred C. Dobbs" in another Houston-directed film, THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE (1948).
Although THE AFRICAN QUEEN received additional Oscar nominations for Best Director (John Huston), Best Actress (Katharine Hepburn) and Best Screenplay (James Agee and John Huston), it, curiously, was not included in the year's nominees for Best Picture.
