Black Ice Multi Accidents Wheeler Blvd

Motorists were going off of Wheeler Blvd this morning due to black ice around 9 A.M. At one point Codiac R.C.M.P. had to shut down parts of the highway so tow trucks could remove the vehicles that were landing in the snow banks. Salt trucks were notified but for well over a hour it was just like a skating rink on the 4 lane highway. Police were having a hard time with motorists travelling to fast for the conditions and trying to slow them down not to cause even more accidents. Video aired on CTV News with Steve Murphy

I find that I can usually feel black ice through my steering wheel. You notice that small inputs don't get you a reaction from the vehicle like you normally expect. But you have to be paying attention, which is 90% of the issue. :-)

OKay, I'll be the first to admit I have no idea how to detect it....I've hit it before and that was no fun.

There was a truck on it's side at lakeside golf course around the same time, officer stopping traffic said there were quite a few cars off on wheeler, guess he was right.

Some people seem to have no idea how to detect the presence of black ice....I had to put my 4 ways on a few weeks back to try to slow down the traffic and found a couple that had passed me before that in the snow bank.
