  • "The Russian border is many hundreds of miles further east." Well, if you don't count Kaliningrad, which is southwest of there.

  • My German teacher in high school was Latvian- he spoke a little Russian

    but grew up in the 1940s speaking German there.

  • Funny, the lithuanian genealogist speaks English with a German accent and not with an Eastern European one. Didn't know that German is still spoken there in some parts of the country.

  • Interesting that Jews in those days had to escape 'to' Germany to avoid persecution.

  • Krottingen (Kretinga) is now in Lithuania as well. Having seen Suchet in films over the years I always figured he was of Turkish or Mediterranean descent.
