It's a mid-July morning in Elkhart Lake, and the quiet serenity of the beautiful Wisconsin farmland is broken by the sound of engines sputtering to life. Vintage engines, that is. An old E-Type Jaguar here. A Shelby GT350 there. Off in the distance, a McLaren Can-Am car clears its throat, breathing through a set of long velocity stacks. And in other parts of the paddock, an Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite is warming its oil when suddenly a Lola T-332 Formula 5000 car roars to life, scaring the daylights out of anybody within a 2-mile radius.

Ah, this is the Kohler International Challenge, the biggest vintage race of the year at Road America, a family-friendly event organized by Brian Redman and sponsored in part by our very magazine. What follows is a photo tour of the weekend, which included an R&T concours for race cars on Friday night and one for road cars on Saturday night, both well attended and held in Elkhart Lake's beautiful downtown. 'Tis a pity, but my Canon can't bring you the smell of the tasty bratwursts served seemingly everywhere.
