Happy New Year. This is a version of Auld Lang Syne played using riffs inspired by some of my favourite guitar players.
Here's how I built the licks:
Chet Atkins does a rhythm track based on Freight Train. Twang meister Duane Eddy establishes the basic melody. (I had to use a bend because I don't have a tremolo arm.) Eddie Van Halen joins in with some pull-offs built on Dsus2 and Em chords and ending on high B. Jimi Hendrix (not shown in the video) overlays the Van Halen riff with the opening to Wind Cries Mary. Mark Knopfler closes off the passage with a line from Lady Writer. Mick Taylor and/or Keith Richards contribute a section based on Monkey Man. Alex Lifeson chimes in with harmonics similar to Red Barcheta. Billy Gibbons uses a bend you see in Tube Snake Boogie. Chuck Berry does one of the most iconic riffs in rock. Joe Pass enters with some jazzy chord melodies (a Bdim7 to an Am6/E then to an E9). Jimmy Page tosses in some spikey bends, similar to those at the end of Stairway to Heaven. Jerry Reed adds some double-stop riffs similar to those used in The Claw. David Gilmore arrives with some of his exaggerated string bends. The Edge contributes an E7 arpeggio lifted from A Sort of Homecoming. Andy Summers finishes it off with a D-chord harmonic, just like in Regatta de Blanc.
love it!
