@lady00010: I THINK you're speaking English, but your response to my non critical comment is so convoluted it is hard to tell. Suffice to say that I feel rudeness such as you display has ruined youtube for many of us. If I didn't like Fleming, I wouldn't have commented, nor would I return again and again to this radiant performance. Perhaps YOU would kindly SHUT UP and let those of us who know about singing make pertinent observations about fach and voice types.

Flawless voice. Wonderful performance. I think Korngold wrote 5
operas. I have Die Tote Stadt. Have to see about getting the others.
(Well, I used to have them in the old LP record days.)
Fleming reminds me of Te Kanawa and Freni w/ her pure voice.

Tnx 4 posting.

No other singer on the planet can hold a candle to this amazing artist. I was priviliged to be part of this performance. I'm awestruck listening to it four years later! What a woman, performer, artist and total inspiration. ..All singers should bow down in awe to Renee. Do away with talent shows forever. This wonderful lady will for ever be unsurpassable

@PianistandFencer Agree 100%. She has me in tears time after time...not many artists manage to do that to me! This voice is SO unique!!

Her recording of this aria is gorgeous, but I think this rendition is even more powerful. I think our girl, Renee, tends to get swept up in the passion of singing live (one of the major reasons why we love her so much!) and actually sings better in front of an audience. Live on and sing, Renee--we're listening...
This is one of the most beautiful arias in all the operatic repertoire. I'm glad Fleming recorded it and did justice to it.

Dear hcrhistopher1, just shut up and listen to a rendition of this aria during which musicianship and dramatic interpretation translate the deliberate dichotomy between what the music is revealing in spite of what the character is valiantly attempting to conceal. To listen to a soprano who is capable of communicating such contradictions with such beauty and unique musicianship is rare and should simply be acknowledged for what it is; an ex-tra-or-di-na-ry and rare talent ,
