Within a single generation, digital media and the World Wide Web have transformed virtually every aspect of modern culture, from the way we learn and work to the ways in which we socialize and even conduct war. But is the technology moving faster than we can adapt to it? And is our 24/7 wired world causing us to lose as much as we've gained?

In Digital Nation: Life on the Virtual Frontier, FRONTLINE presents an in-depth exploration of what it means to be human in a 21st-century digital world. Continuing a line of investigation she began with the 2008 FRONTLINE report Growing Up Online, award-winning producer Rachel Dretzin embarks on a journey to understand the implications of living in a world consumed by technology and the impact that this constant connectivity may have on future generations. "I'm amazed at the things my kids are able to do online, but I'm also a little bit panicked when I realize that no one seems to know where all this technology is taking us, or its long-term effects," says Dretzin.

  • I'm watching this because i have to write an essay for it but at the same time I'm texting and in facebook...probably shouldn't be doing that :)

  • @NekoLumina16

There are a lot of things we shouldnt be doing right now.

This is the least you will have to worry about.

This docu youre watching here is just a tiny bit of the insane society we live in.

If you worry about this you wont want to watch my youtube chanel.

  • @mindinflow i agree with you. we are doing many bad things to our society but we also must move with the times. A digital nation is a social one. at a lesser one compared to the former one.And this is so cynical because i do both. i search things on Google and i love reading. I love photography and i love social media and i plan to make a career on it. We have to focus on things such as a real alternate fuel sources to replace our current. what do you think?

  • @lk10xxxxxx I agree with you.

Ofcourse technology isnt a bad thing, its only the intention behind it what makes people mad about it.

I can use a knife to butter my bread but i can also kill a man with it.

So whats bad the knife or the intention ??

When we use technology for the right intentions than it can be a magnificent thing.

But who can tell whats right and whats not.

All things have a dark side and a light side.

  • Funny...

I was watching this while I was working on an English essay. When they talked about how distracted we get, I realised...

oh man, I'm terrible at multi-tasking.

  • @goldenjabba We are all terrible in multi tasking.

We are all creators on this planet and we can focus or create one thing at a time.

When you take your focus to two different things you loose the focus and your abillitiy to create;)

  • Im addicted to video game and I really understand what it is. But dying playing, im addicted, not idiot.

  • @NekoLumina16 Hehe, I have to write an essay about it aswell :O. Lawl

  • I am watching this on my phone for an essay...and texting and on amazon and on facebook bwahaha

  • Being able to multi task is not evidence of intelligence, pure original innovative thought does not come from digital technology! Some of the best inventions and theories came about in the 18th century! focusing on one task and then moving on to the next task is more efficient. Bosses like to think multitasking is getting lots of work out of you but the opposite is actually true they get less work out of you.

  • You ever watch the Star trek episode where the Borg attack the Enterprise?

Well digital technology is the Borg and we are all being assimilated into the collective.

It is an addiction no question about it, I recently broke up with a girl friend because I got so fed up with her breaking off our conversations to answer texts and e mails. The technology starts to undermine the relationship to the point were one partner walks away and its the same with friendships.
