São Paulo... Great City, great music.
I'm proud to be "paulistano". And João Gilberto is like an icon here.

I wish I was Brazilian...out of many things, you can be sure to be proud its music...can't get more suave and musical than this

Does anyone out there know how Joao is? I read where his landlord evicted him recently. He's a few months older than I; he's 80, so his well-being is a concern for we who love him. My best to all his fans. JD Cowie Portland ME

Don't worry. I'm a 23 year old fan of his from the Philippines, so I understand what you mean!
My Dad brought me up on his music which is nothing short of magic. Until now, I wonder how he does that syncopated singing. Then, there's that gentle voice.
His music is one of the reasons I want to learn Portuguese (I'm learning the Continental version right now, though).

I know most of you are Brazilian and that you probably resent my English comments on Joao, but I do love the man. I'm 78, our children were brought up on repeated playing of Getz/Gilberto, they can all sing So Danso Samba and most of the other songs he sang on that beautiful album. I think Stan loved him and Tom. I did, and I do. for me, there's nothing their sound in all of music, how it sounds, how it makes me feel.

I cannot get enough of him. Everything he does is simply perfect. The gentle voice, the passion in it. Jesus, I wish I could meet him and kiss his hand. james cowie, portland maine USA
