Gurraramawuy is one of Djakapurra's brothers of which there are many. He is arguably the most sensible and down-to-earth of the Munyarryun brothers, a good father and husband who does not drink and who is diligent in his yirdaki career. He is a regular maker of instruments and occasionally produces extraordinary yirdaki that blows away the competition. This F/G instrument is one such stick.
A feature of this yirdaki is its soft-edged, bouncy, 'pillowy' acoustics. It is the opposite of harsh and coarse. The instrument is very accommodating in that tongue flicks and stronger tongued accents sound great no matter how you play them. The lips are supported by a comfortable mouthpiece and ideal back pressure, allowing for rapid syncopations or slower, more regular rhythms.
This is a ceremony-type instrument which, if you brought it back to Arnhem Land, would be borrowed incessantly by Yolngu.
