@suburbanbabe But if a family knows that both parents are carriers (since the 1st had CF), why play the odds just so the parents can have another child? Sounds selfish....both parents are putting their happiness in front of the health of their future child (if both know of the odds). They are playing Russian roulette. My sis was born in '73 and came out not even being a carrier, so they didn't know the risk of having another child w/ CF. The risk was 2 high, once I came out w/ CF.
My son [12] has CF and his sister [7] does not. When I was pregnant with my daughter I had no tests as I would never have 'got rid of her' if she'd had CF so no point testing til she was born. It was a leap of faith. What I'm saying is, your parents could not have predicted all the pain you would go through, and 2 transplants, and they already had another child, so could say their family was 'complete' anyway - don't judge others for choosing to have another child, they can't know the future.
I'm sorry for asking but I have CF, so this isn't to be disrespectful....but why did your parents have a 2nd child after their 1st was born with CF? My older sister was lucky but when I was born, they found out I had CF. I was the last one. I've on my 2nd transplant and doing well but I'm looking to have kids. If my gf is found to be a carrier, no way I'm taking the chance of having my child go through the pain I did.
