秋冬是美濃出產白玉蘿蔔的季節,白玉蘿蔔是美濃的特有種,據說是早期由日本引進來的,生長期只需40~45天就成熟,農民通常在二期稻之後、一期稻之前種植白玉蘿蔔,不僅­自己吃,也能增加一些收入。不過,以前裡作期到美濃,舉目所見都是菸田,而在離菸政策的衝擊下,美濃菸田面積已從全盛的2000多公頃,到現在剩170多公頃,因此許多農­民近幾年紛紛改種白玉蘿蔔,但也因為看到去年價格不錯,今年大家搶種,再加上八八水災影響,觀光客人數大減,讓農民又開始擔心價格會起起落落。林秋伶、徐偉文的報導。
