I agree to an extent and this is where preparation is key, using a decent Floorboard unit, the tone and the volume of the guitars can be controlled. Also just as important would be to have numerous guitarists in the orchestra, each with an amp positioned in a different spot within the orchestra to maintain a balanced sound. As long as the preparations are made to make it work, it can work.

You're absolutely right. It doesn't blend. You're also right when you say that they might work, because in a song that I wrote, there's a section, where I used power chords, and they literally bring POWER into the orchestral sound. Blending is key here.

It will. An album is in the making with this in mind.

  • @1212surface And the other issue

    2) Us guitarists have the tendency to show off, and overdo it... even those of us that can play with feel. I'm sure if you played the same stuff that this guy is playing on an acoustic classical instrument, it still wouldn't sound right. I know, because I'm putting together an ambitious album, experimenting integration of modern guitars, drums, bass, in an orchestral environment. It is indeed difficult, but with balance, the sound is excellent.

Actually the real issue (and there's two of them) with integrating electric guitar in an orchestral environment would be this :

    1) People are not used to hearing electric guitars in a Classical setting. Realize it took the piano a long time to finally be accepted as a Classical instrument to be played in an orchestra, people didn't like it, it didn't sound right to them. Electric guitar can sound just as beautiful as piano, if played right.

Michiru Yamane, the composer for Symphony of the Night is very inspiring.

  • I hope the concept of the Concerts for electric guitar and orchestra grows.

  • I don't really think that the power chords fit in with the texture of the orchestra.

They might work with an orchestra in some cases, but certianly not here.

  • Well done! nice orchestration...he must be a fun of Stravinsky.... I wish he did something with the guitar sound though.... reverb, compression and a better distotrion I think were needed.

  • that's some interesting tapping....

could you post a tutorial on that?
