This is Betty, one of my fellow teachers. She first says "I don't know" in Mandarin, then in the local Guiyang dialect, then in Hunan dialect. My Mandarin in this clip is awful because I'm trying so hard not to laugh.

  • I lived in Beijing as an expatriate and studied Mandarin for years, but I always found it irksome that I could travel to some corner of China and be completely at a communicative loss if I were to travel to Hong Kong.

    I've always envied my parents, who grew up in the hotpot that is Singapore. They grew up speaking Mandarin, Hokkien (Fujian), Hakka, Teochew (Chaozhou), Cantonese and god knows how many other dialects.

  • there is no a HUNAN dialect , because several kinds of dialects in HUNAN ,they are totally diffrent from each other. even a hunanese can't understand some other dialect in HUNAN
