Demonstration of the Venturi effect, the combination of:
continuity equation - speedup of a fluid flowing through a constriction, and,
Bernoulli effect - drop in fluid pressure for increased fluid speed.

  • Excellent demonstration. I have used the same principles as a steam powered eductor to draw a vacuum on a process vessel, and at home I use a simple venturi to draw organic fertiliser solution up from a bucket and spray the garden. I have a number of smaller venturis that I use for spraying pva (water based) paint on my house walls both inside and out (one can attach a trigger mechanism for delicate control. The applications are many, including skimming your pool, washing your vehicles etc.

  • Thank you. Interesting and educational. I took a year of calculus-based physics and though I remember just about all of it, I don't remember anything about this. We must not have covered fluid mechanics (or whatever it's called). I'm interested in building a device to attach to a garden hose that will suck fertilizer solution from a container as water flows in the hose and mix the solution with the water.
