Part 1 of 7: This week on Science and the Outer Streams, Peter Shor explains the philosophy of spiritual teacher George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff. Gurdjieff is arguably "the most colorful, enigmatic, and charismatic man of the 20th Century." Gurdjieff's basic teaching is that human life is lived in waking sleep, and transcendence of this state requires a specific inner work. This leads to otherwise inaccessible levels of vitality and awareness. Mr. Shor has been working with Gurdjieff's teachings since 1976. He is the president of the Claymont Society, an organization that directs Claymont Court, a community and school founded by J.G. Bennett, a principal student Gurdjieff's . Andy Nesky, President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Theosophical Society, is the host.

  • Long-time student of both Gurdjieff and Ouspensky's works. I really appreciate the fact that not only are there people keeping this info in the public forum but also that there are people keeping THE WORK relevant. THANK YOU!!!!!

  • Although some of the students of students of Gurdjieff, namely Seekers After Truth, are quite good in articulating the aims of Schools, for a really excellent introduction to The Gurdjieff Work, read Herald of the Coming Good. It was the first book Gurdjieff wrote when he arrived in Paris.

He lays out his mission rather clearly.

Many thanks to those who have put up these Work videos.

  • i learned a lot from this interview from this respected gurdjieff pupil.

  • gurdjieff, probably the second most influental person of 20 century.

  • I have something in common with Gurdjieff. I probably am exploring the New Universe in a way in which G prepared me to do. I don't know about the rest of the 'People of the 4th way" I'm pretty sure they are remaining Under the Sun. I want them to know that there is experience Over the sun and that you are all welcomed to visit the entire cosmology

    Peace of Pi,

    Dav*d

  • I prefer the less eclectic transmission og the Gurdjieff ideas and practice given by The Gurdjieff Foundation.

  • Gustave Ridley's paintings are of this energy.

  • @Psychogenius018 agree,some G stuff does come across very silly,childlike..?

maybe this is how he was taught these "cosmic truths"...and how he repeated them? as to his secular side,g made no excuse for asking for payment for knowledge,i'm not saying i agree with this parse, however i can understand how his wealth of knowledge may of been lost if not for some kind of sponsership.

  • actually it is not so silly if you think a little,

it is a principle about that everything is connected with each other, nothing is seperate, think about all the planets and sun and moon.. they're all a system actually, a big machine.. and we also cannot think ourselves seperate from this system, it affects us all in many ways
