how do you add layers in the first place??? what if you want to animate a jpg picture? like just move the mouth?

awsome video i just got flash like 2 days ago so im trying to get a hang of it but this helped alot thanks! but i have one problem when i got to move the eye lid down it grabs the whole thing and wont let me ajust it like in 3:30 if you could help that would be awsome thanks alot great vid! 5/5

right! What you want to do is move your cursor over the edge of the object. Wait for your cursor to change to a curved line, indicating you've reached the edge. Then click and drag!
If the object you are working on is a symbol, double click to edit it's internal objects.

awsome thanks also when i double click it to fix the internal objects how do i return it back to the normal editing where its not faded anymore?

either double click outside of the object you are editing (in the gray area) or click back using the navigation under the timeline.

why do you need a layer for each part of drawing

The layers help you separate the elements of the drawing. Especially when working with an animation. Revealing and locking different layers helps you only select the objects you need.
