  • what great footage, what forsight you had, was that Northwich depot with the 25 &40 near the end? 40028 my first 40 for haulage...

  • Thank you very much mate. I actually sell a 5 DVD set of the unedited footage if you are interested.

Yeah, its Northwich. And 40 028 was my first one for haulage as a basher.

  • This brought back many happy memories of BR in the North in the 70's and 80's, especially the distinctive Class 40's which were a staple of the Calder Valley scene, where I come from.

Lovely footage - even though I suspect you are from the wrong side of the Pennines!

  • Lancashire born and bred until 1978 when I had a brief stay in Yorkshire (Hebden Bridge) until 1984. So both really!

  • great footage of the br blue era.has brought back many happy memories from times and earlier times when locos, dmus, emus and rolling stock had more interest. top marks.

  • Always loved the north west as there was just so much variety in the 70s & 80s.

  • @britishbulldog5505 too prone to bogie fractures I think

  • I suspect the that the Freightliner may have been one of the infamous GMC "Flying Dustbins" on it's way back to Newton Heath. Judging by the road which was set and that the Class 25 banker was following it to assist it up Miles Platting bank.

  • Without doubt the class 37s and the awesome 40s ruled the roost for me. Spent many a weekend bashing in the late 70s/early 80s. Brilliant quality Video considering how old they are!

  • I wish i'd done this for a living when i had the chance. : (

  • Why were class 40s decommissioned before class 37s? I would have thought that they are better.

  • At HM we had a early morning newspaper train from Vic to York. dep Vic at 0215hrs.

It was booked at a speed of 90mph.

Some of the older Healey Mills drivers got a nose bleed at owt over 35mph. As a result a notice was put out that all trains must run at booked speed.

A class 40 would just make 60mph a couple of miles south of York. As a result there was a lot of delay on the York papers. Circa 1984/5.

  • great video mate 5stars and fav
