This is a simple but effective way to obtain water in the winter. Collect snow and place it in a container near the fire, small bits at a time. when the snow melts and you have around 1/4 " of water in the container, you can gradually increase the size of the snow you add to the pot. when the container is half full, one can place the container directly over the heat and continue to add snow until the container is full. bring to a boil, Drink it hot or cool (never ice cold, it will cause a drop in your core temperature). Cheers, ED

  • Works for me. I didn't know you put in a little at a time. Ive never melted snow for water, but I would have just packed the kettle full first time and waited.

Is that how you learned to do it slow, cos of the 3 attempts?

Im sure up there in CA you are plenty experienced with snow. Where are you?
