Yes, he's better than Butler but that's not hard to achieve and yes, I saw the 25th broadcast. IMO too many compromises were made for the venue. Having seen Panaro in NYC, I can't help but be disappointed. This spectacle lacked the charm, magic and intimacy of the theater. I'll just have to save up for a trip there occasionally for as long as the show runs there. It's a shame a lot of young people will never see the original/best production.

@audiesgirl Oh, I agree with you there, but I still think Velletri has an amazing voice and is a ton better than Butler.
Did you see the 25th anniversary concert? That's probably as close as you'll get to a fully staged DVD for a very long time

@animelover13579 I was misunderstood. I was trying to say they had to pick someone no better than Butler so Butler wouldn't look worse than he is His voice is terrible as I've stated dozens of times on YT; he ruined the movie. I've been personally slammed for saying so. My life's dream is that they release a vid of ANY stage POTO. Crawford is my fav, followed by Warlow, Owen-Jones, Gillam & Panaro but I love them all. Just check out my comments on other POTO clips. Hope I cleared this up

@audiesgirl Are you saying that Butler is better than most singers they could have pick? Are you kidding me? Velletri is 100000x better than the untrained Butler. I'm sure he didn't have to have his notes digitally elongated as Butler did.
I enjoy the movie, but I could pick 100 singers that sound better than Butler. Pretty much any broadway/west end phantom actually.

The interesting part, is that Italian is the traditional language for Opera. He sounds like Gerdad, but unlike Buttler, this guy is a singer, which makes him better. (I also like Buttler but, he's not a singer really)

he sounds alot like Gerard Butler! so sexy and low!

Okay this is my 3rd fav. language sung for Phantom.
1. English ( Gerry's amazing!! )
2. French ( very romantic )
3. Italian ( pretty smooth )

@wedancetilldawn If half of his face looks like Gerard's and his voice sounds like this, he can rape me any day.

i think italian is by far the best version followed by english then spanish. italian is the most musical language period.

I love the versions of this song with deep voice singers.
Michael Crawford his version is too, girly. His high pitch singing doesn't make me melt but cringe. gayish.
Geral Butler and this Italian version are beautiful deep manly voices. I would go down a deep dark tunnel if this version was sung to me.
