Aikido doesn't directly descend from Chin Na; it directly descends from Jujitsu. However, Jujitsu descends from Chin Na and Shuai Jiao (Chinese Wrestling). In a way, you can call Chin Na the granddaddy of Aikido. I like how Mikemartello states the four types of Chinese fighting; Ti, Da, Shuai, and Na. This means Kicking, Striking, Wrestling, and Chin Na. Chin Na is used to counter wrestling, Wrestling is used to counter striking and kicking, and striking and kicking is used to counter Chin Na.

this is the best video on chinna out on youtube, good job paisa' :)

Can you get him to punch a little bit faster, kind of makes you look like you're doing dance choreography
-
this is just teaching and learning, it is not real fight. when student becomes skilled, teacher will punch faster, and gradually can fight
-
like dancing.
in real fight it is much faster.
try to swing me around? you get hit 3times on the face, at least.

It seems like an Aikido demo, but this is kung fu chin-na...
And yes, kungfu is not just TV MMA ring sport fight
It it a diverse set of skill to improve overall techniques

I got that idea when you said Chin Na could be called the granddaddy of Aikido. But seems we are both saying the same thing anyways.. :P

I never said Chin Na was a system by itself nor did I infer it. Where did you get that idea? I know full well that Chin Na is simply a piece of the puzzle in Chinese martial arts. Are you sure you meant to respond to my post? Reread it.

I was under the impression that Akido was created by its founder Morihei Ueshiba after he travvelled to China and spent a period of time studying Bagua. He then incorporated its principles along with Jujitsu (as you say) and karate, to create Akido. To say chin na is a system in itself is misleading as it is simply a part of any complete martial art. Joint locking techniques dont vary greatly across the arts, as humans are all put together the same, although some have others, less.

I am sorry that he passed away, when did he pass? How?? He seems in better shape than any one I know.

wait wat happened exactly did mike martello passed away
Great, I really like the flowing motion you have develped.
Can you show some videos of how to escape from grappling situations, like top mount or side mount or the triangle etc, How would you deal with a man that grappled you to the ground?

I have been training such situations but outcome is different than standup. I will tell you extremely hard since I am back down my motions to dissolve my opponents force is different and possibilities of change are less. I have a good success rate but for average person who chooses force to apply there chinna will be over come... Juts like rolling with someone who uses no force to side mount or triangle you.
I will tape some ideas and post the results...

very nice
clear demonstration of the concepts of "big joints against small joints", using the opponents weight, pressure points, and the body's chain reactions.

Jose, Thankyou for the nice comments. I trained Tanglang when I was younger and still teach... Now I train many ideas with NO focus on style anymore... The qinna is from Yue Jia San Shou I learned when I was in Taiwan from Wang Cheih laoshi... best - mikemartello
