The Mayor Of London Elections 2008
London Mayor Ken Livingstone is a massive twat
Kenneth Robert Livingstone (born 17 June 1945) is a British politican and the current Mayor of London, a post he has held since its creation in 2000. He was previously Member of Parliament for Brent East, and Labour Leader of the Greater London Council from 1981 until it was abolished in 1986.
He is a member of the Labour Party, but was initially elected as Mayor of London as an Independent candidate after the Labour Party chose not to nominate him as their candidate in the first mayoral elections. In January 2004, he was re-admitted to the Labour Party. He stood as the official Labour Party candidate for Mayor in the June 2004 elections, which he won with a total of 828,380 first- and second-preference votes.
He is the Labour Party candidate for the forthcoming 2008 mayoral election, in which he hopes to win a third term. During the 1980s Livingstone was generally considered to have strong left-wing views, earning him the nicknames "Red Ken" and 'Ken Leninspart' from Private Eye magazine.
Livingstone was born in Lambeth, London, England, the son of Ethel Ada (Kennard), an exotic dancer, and Robert Moffat Livingstone, who was of Scottish descent and worked as a ship's master in the Merchant Navy.[1] Livingstone has described his parents as "working class Tories". His hobby of keeping and breeding newts[2] dates from this period.
He married Christine Pamela Chapman in 1973 and the marriage ended in divorce in 1982. Around that time he became involved with Kate Allen, now director of Amnesty International in the UK, but the couple separated in November 2001.[3]
Livingstone and his current partner Emma Beal, also his office manager, have a son, Thomas, born December 14, 2002 at the University College Hospital, London, and a daughter, Mia, born on March 20, 2004 at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead. He also has three other children from previous relationships,[4] whose existence was only publicly revealed during the 2008 mayoral election. Livingstone is a noted bon vivant, having twice worked as a food critic for London's Evening Standard newspaper and various magazines.[5]
Livingstone attended Tulse Hill Comprehensive School.[6] He worked for eight years as a cancer research technician and also trained as a teacher, qualifying in 1973, but was never active in the profession. Livingstone joined the Labour Party in 1968 at a time when party membership was falling and few new young members were joining, and rose rapidly in the local party. He was elected to the Lambeth Borough Council in May 1971 and served as Vice-Chair of the Housing Committee from 1971 to 1973 (succeeding John Major in the job).
At the 1973 elections Livingstone won the Norwood seat on the Greater London Council (GLC) and served as Vice-Chair of Housing Management in 1974-1975 before being dismissed when he opposed spending cuts urged by council leader Sir Reg Goodwin. He also served on the film censorship committee and urged the abolition of censorship. Coming up to the 1977 elections, Livingstone realised that it would be difficult to retain his seat and managed to be selected for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, a safe seat, following the retirement of Dr David Pitt. This ensured that he was one of the few left-wing Labour councillors to remain on the council.
Livingstone had been selected as the Labour Parliamentary candidate for the Hampstead constituency. He moved to Camden just before the deadline to stand for the council in 1978, and was elected there. Livingstone's performance in Hampstead in the 1979 general election was good, although he did not come close to winning what was at that time a safe Conservative seat.

Yes, there are many tossers on here! Actually, youtube doesn't always bring out the best in ppl!
I've nothing whatsoever against asian ppl. I just feel we should all be living 'alongside' each other, and not segregated. Close to me, in Halifax, there are areas where white ppl daren't walk - and vise versa, there are places where asians wouldn't be welcome. It shouldn't be like this, and rather than gloss over it, we should address it before we end up like Russia

Actually i think Ken's multicultural aims benifit everyone and i don't think he compromises on being English.
Having said that thanks for being polite about it - there are so many rude tossers on youtube!

Well, we'll disagree peacefully then eh, and not fall out ;)
I've nothing against him personally. He is a nice enough human being. I just find him anti-english, and uncaring when it comes to listening to the white working class Londoners.
Having said that, Boris will be even worse

To be honest, Boris, Ken and Brian are all a DEAD LOSS! I am amazed that such a wonderful city like London can't come up with a better choice than these three muppets.
Thank god I'm a Yorkshireman. None of them would last 2 minutes up here with us lot! LOL

London is WELL shut of him! They needed something new and fresh. Shame it had to be Boris tho

Cos it was a national swing against Labour & he was up against another popular person, Ken did better than most councils.

If Ken is so good, why did London BOOT HIS FUCKIN ASS OUT OF OFFICE THEN?????? LOL
Ken had too many limp-wristed liberal faggy ideas which only appealed to the softies of our society. Anyone with any real substance didn't vote for this tosspot
