Use less wattage resistor, and add in series a ballast from a fluorescent lamp, or a big transformer ;) You will get the interesting results you may want

wrong, the resistance isnt high enough.... the less resistance, the more amperage....and theres definately to manys amps running through that,

0.1 Ohm 1/4W resistors connected to a transformer salvaged from any average household electronic device burn much faster, in a few seconds at most.

The value and/or wattage of the resistor is too high.
