This video was created by Capt. Steve Smith in honor of the late Col. Mike Stahlman and dedicated to those men and women who served with VMFP-3. The video shows some great footage of VMFP-3 during 1990 and tours the Ready Room, Flight Equipment and shows the pilots suiting up for the RF-4B Phantom launches of the day. It follows the pilots to Maintenance Control and onto the flight line. Showing FOD walks,Preflight Inspections, Start ups and launches.   • I was with VMCJ-3 when it was re-designated VMFP-3. I was assigned to S-2 and Material Control from 74-76. Did 2 carrier qualifications. Great to see so many memories. 

  • Great video, cool to see my Mural on the hanger doors still there so many years later...

    I was attached to P-3 from 1979-1983, and painted that 12 ft. phantom man on the hanger doors and did a full rf4b on the metal shop wall..great memories..thanx

  • I remember VMFP-3 I was stationed at mather AFB i can remember fridays when RF-4s From VMFP-3 would make a highspeed pass over 22L and break 4 landing.What a sight and sound.They would taxi right by me on the tarmat i wave and both crew members wood wave back.I mess those fridays when they would arrive what a airshow.U R not forgten.Mikey 1976.

  • I was in MALS-11 powerplants when they were decommissioned. I loved watching them do touch-and-gos and flying right over the barracks. What a sight...and noise.

  • Outstanding video. I was in VMFP3 from it's formation until 1978. I was on Det 3 on the USS MIdway. I worked Avionics Com/Nav at the IMA Level at H&MS11. Sad to see MCAS El Toro slowly disappear.

  • Great video! I was in this squadron from 1984 until it decommisioned in 1990. I was surprised to see myself in it. I'm the maintenance controller behind the desk. Really cool to see all the aircraft on the flight line including A/C 36 painted gloss black. I still have photos of it. Anyway Happy Birthday to all Marines, Happy Veterans Day to all mebers of our Nations Armed Forces and thanks for posting.
