Democratic capitalism and the financial crisis. Finding a solution for ordinary Americans.
Partial Transcript -
"Well you know I don't know any good alternative to democratic capitalism. Let's remember what happened to the Soviet Union and its attempts to plan everything from above.
Look there are, we do have a financial crisis and the president spoke last night to the need to address it and to address it at its root causes and there will be plenty of time later to examine why this happened
but right now the President, my colleague Hank Paulson, the Fed chairman Ben Bernanke are working with Congressional leaders as we speak to find a solution to this crisis so that this does not become a problem for ordinary Americans - that is the key.
But let's remember that this is also an economic system that is responsible for many of the advances in the world, whether they are medical, whether they are through information technology, whether they are the advances that allow men and women to come from modest circumstances to better themselves - this is a system that's responsible for that and when you ask yourself 'What is the alternative?' I don't think there is one."

prosperabovehaters - What did you think of the interviewer, Jeremy Paxman?
I ask because some other comments here don't like him and you said
"this interviewer sucks!" about another BBC interviewer, a woman, as a comment to dumppalin's video
"Condoleezza Rice on Sarah Palin's experience. With subtitles"
watch?v=fcZ_VDScvj0
Is he better than the BBC woman in the other Condi interview, or no better, and why?

It's rather insulting for him to make such a big deal over her being a female.

liveleakisbetter - Was he? Explain.
To my eyes as a republican Briton, whose unwelcome monarch as head of state, has been a woman, the Queen, and whose Prime Minister for 10 years was a woman, (whom I hated as I'm left-wing socialist and Thatcher a conservative) - but never have I questioned them being female as a "big deal".
Why did Americans choose the light-weight Bush as President and the towering intellect of Rice as only Secretary of State? Sex? Colour? There must be a reason.

I agree that being a female in politics is a big deal, but by constantly bringing the topic back to gender he's blocking her out of main road political discussion and putting her into a subcategory not of her choosing.
liveleakisbetter 3 years ago
liveleakisbetter - No you don't agree with me - you misunderstood my comment above.
I do not think being a female in politics is a big deal.
No Briton does these days. Not with Queen Elizabeth and after Thatcher.
Female politicians are expected IN BRITAIN, the norm.
I still want to ask America, WHY is it a big deal to have a woman in charge?
When Condi is the best, of all men and women, how dare Americans pat themselves on the back for choosing a black candidate (Obama)?
CondiTV1 3 years ago
liveleakisbetter - And if the Americans had elected Hillary Clinton as president I would have scolded them on similar grounds -
"When Condi is the best, of all blacks and whites, how dare Americans pat themselves on the back for choosing a woman candidate (Hillary)"
I HATE putting people into categories, I am just fuming that the Americans have not chosen the best person of all and they dare to think have been Politically Correct enough to excuse their failure to draft Condi.
SHAME!
