As I type this, leaders from the biggest industrialized nations are meeting in Copenhagen to discuss a possible treaty to diminish worldwide carbon emissions. As reported last month, it is already known that no deal will be reached during these talks. Many scientists say time is running out and others say its too late. Meanwhile in Canada, the forces of capitalism and industry are moving full force to extract the last bits of oil from the Alberta tar sands. The insanity of this project perfectly exemplifies Premise 10 from Derrick Jensens Endgame

  • Those tar sands mining sites remind me of Isengard from The Lord of the Rings movies. I think it's high time the Ents bust in and fuck those fools up.

  • So, we buy gas, we give those companies billions of dollars, which they then use to destroy the environment, bribe our politicians, wage a campaign war against our environment. God bless capitalism!

  • @theGreenAnarchist My favorite scene! As i watched it I was picturing a logging company being on the receiving end of their whoopass tactics

  • Permaculture is the only network of ecologists and sustainable agriculture for the future. You must learn the design for the future.

  • @theGreenAnarchist I've been up there, you should see when it snows or rains and you can see the oil in the snowflakes when they melt on your jacket. It reminds me of a war zone, the smell and the desolation, but please don't base your opinion of all of Alberta on this spot, there are some very beautiful places here, Ft. MacMurray isn't one of them though.

  • @rring88 unfortunately, that's true. but their kind of sustainability is the only kind. our actions will catch up to us eventually.

  • Anarcho-syndicalism is the way to go, not this primativist stuff. We need to improve the environment without killing everyone in the process. Contrary to what these guys say I believe it's possible. If hemp weren't outlawed in the 30's a lot of things could still be made from it and the environment would be better off for example. Once the constraints of capitalism and government are removed we could move ahead on real environmental solutions. Some of these people are unbalanced in my opinion

  • You know nuclear war looks better everyday.

  • @chris3443 steps.

  • @akpret "i dont think we really need jumbo jets"

I don't think you need a computer, get rid of it.

  • @akpret Yes, but stuff like medicine, electricity, mass produced food and other things we still need.
