This is the newest camera rocket I put together after the others had too much flight spin. Much better flight but the landing was less than perfect. It has been repaired to fly again.

    Did you use the stock motor? And also did you just simply tape the camera to the side?

  • The motor used was an AT single use G80. I guess it could be called a stock motor. The camera is friction fitted into a BT-50 tube that was added into the stock body tube horizontally. This way the camera lense is pointed down while the camera sits horizontal. You can tape these types of cameras to the side of the rocket, however this particular camera can't. The operation buttons are on the side away from the lense and you would not be able to get to them once taped on.

  • ok...this is cool footage so, one: how much does this cost? and two: where can I get the rocket stuff! I love model rockets! is there anyway I can attatch a cam to one of my existing rockets? what type of camera is it?

  • The cost depends on the equiptment you buy! All you have to do is look for model rocket stuff on line! There is more rocket stuff out there than ever before. Most of us just tape the camera to the body tube. The camera I used for this is only the size of a pocket knife and inserted into another section of tubing, horizontally. The camera is called a 5 in 1 by ST LAB and are very hard to find now. If you do expect to pay upwards of $150 for it. There are better cameras out there now for less.

  • do you know if you can put the reuseable engines in the rocket initiator starter kit that does not come with them. whats the dif. between the 2 kits?

  • Yes you can. The only limit is the length of the RMS you want to use. If the rocket was built stock with the baffle for ejection, it will not take the longer motors. If it was built well with good epoxy, it will hold up to an "H" motor just fine. The starter kit is just that. It has the rocket and everything you need to launch it minus the engines and the battery you will need. It is a great value for the price and works great as well.

  • It might have been by a hair and the snap back of the rocket by the chute may have been the cause of the shroud line hangup. The rocket was modified with a short (12") section to house the camera. It was also a very straight up flight which this rocket was not doing all the time. Good call.

  • Huh, it seemed to me like the delay was actually too short! Initiator is a good rocket.

  • Yes but not bad. One fin broke clean off and one split the fillet at the back. I didn't build this one and the fin was not glued to the fin lock tabs on the motor tube. It only ripped the fillets off the body. It fit right back in and was on solid with some 15 minute epoxy about one hour later. I will try it again in three weeks and hope for a better ending.

  • Nasty tangle. Damage?
