I bought an iPod from Target, and before purchasing I specifically asked what the return policy was and the lady at the register said, as long as you have your receipt and original packaging even if it is opened you can return it within 90 Days if you are not satisfied for any reason.

So to make the long story short, I go to return it, used for like 2 hours, and they say you cannot return it even after 1 day, because it was opened. I tell them that's not what the employee said and they say, this is the rule and everyone knows check the back of your . And this very rude security guard who was acting like a supervisor declining my return (which was really weird, why would a security guard even be in the returns department handling a return situation?), says for all we know you could be lying that the employee said that. I said I want to talk to the manager and the manager said the same thing and the supervisor wouldn't even come to the front to talk to me, and just told the manager to say we cannot return an open iPod.

So I right away say thank you, and take the iPod and go the Electronics Department as you see in the video and ask what their return Policy is, which he says you CAN return it even if it is opened within 90 Days. However this employee at least mentions that I can confirm with customer service, but the first employee I purchased from didn't even say that. The point is the employees tell you, that you can buy it being sure you can return it, but at the end they won't take it back and I lost $325.00. Target has a Terrible Customer Service. I'm never stepping foot there again.

  • i had the worst shopping experience at target.i think ill go fill a cart and return everything hahaha.just try to talk to the store manager and u will find out everyone is a manager its like shopping at burger king.then go try to call their customer service,,,its off shore and if u can understand their english r a better translator than i am.im sure the woman who told me she was a team leader is not in charge of the store but she stuck up for the rude employee.fill a cart then leave it sitting.

lol... so what's your story? I'm filing with the BBB and Target is currently aware of this video, so if you like your voice heard write it here. Unfortanatley from the below comments, Target does not really monitor their employees behaiviors and attitude... so some stores you just have to stop going too. They go spending thousands of dollars on advertising to get new customers when they can just be nice and keep repeat customers instead.

  • I actually work at Target and WE DO accept opened ipods. we just dont accept like ones that look like they've been purposely smashed or whatnot. My thoughts its just those people. Even as an employee Ive been to certain ones where the people at Guest Service are ass holes :/ sorry man, I would try returning it to a different Target. or hell if its still under 90 days you can with your reciept go back and get a warranty THEN return it or get a new one

  • @xlildollix

I knew they were lying to me and that's what ticked me off even more. It's sad how Target let's their employees be a-holes and on top of that make them even managers and supervisors. I didn't know about the warranty thing, so If I have warranty they will take the item back and refund full amount within the 90 days? do they refund the Warranty amount too? either way, I will not be stepping in to another target store ever!

  • damn man...that sucks....why did u return the ipod though? u made an impulse buy? lol those are the worstttttt purchases to make.

  • @mjmbk

I bought it for my Niece's Birthday, and her frinds also chipped in and bought her one so she asked me if I could return it the one I bough her, and I said yes, since they told me I have 90 days. So it's now just sitting here collecting dust. =( One of the worst Customer Services ever...

  • By the way, its illegal to record video in public establishments without consent. The man in the video and target can sue you.

  • Actually, majority of store employees are unaware of policies. I didn't know about our return policy until i started working in guest service. My store started the 45 day rule in Oct. It prints on the receipt directly under the item.

  • @afshinazizi i wouldnt say specfically target guest service is bad, but the thing is it depends on certain stores, there are some guest services that act like ass munchers, but other stores actually do their job and do a good job with a good attitude, i work at target and ive seen ppl return ipods thats been opened alot of times those are repackaged ones

  • @afshinazizi...And any register can process a return, as long as the employee knows how to process the return and they have the return stickers available, the return could even be done in electronics (I processed many a returns back there myself ad I wan't management). Obviously the only things that can't be returned are things like opened movies, games, cd's and prepaid cards.

  • @afshinazizi...sometimes managers change the policy's and don't always communicate the change to the electronic employees, that would happen a lot. You can always take it back to another store because you can return an item to any target with a receipt or talk to a manager and tell them you were misinformed if they won't return it then ask for the numebr to the regional office (or just say it doesn't work when you try to return it).

  • @afshinazizi .....I used to work at that Target, in the electronics department along with the team member in the video. The ipod return policy has always been 90 days as long as the serial number matches the box and it wasn't damaged or looked used. Sometimes theres a 10% restocking fee but even the team members don't know what items contain a restocking fee because only when an item is returned and processed at the register will the stocking fee show up.

  • i hate to say this but every target store is different. If u brought it to my store we would only exchange it for another one and that is on the back on the receipt. Now they could have just given u a gift card for the amount that u paid for the ipod.

  • I'm really good friends with the Target Manager in Irvine, CA.... I told him about this experience you had and he was shocked. He said if you forward this video to them I'm sure they would work something out with you as it looks like they were just being A-Holes to you in general. He said that they also accept returns on open iPods within the 90 days as mentioned by the other Target employee who posted below. This is terrible advertising for Target. I'd recommend going to BBB.org Good Luck!
