Many comments posted here are simply absurd. How many times do people need to be proved that generalising an entire race for the faults of a corrupted government, a failure of justice will only incite hatred? No, not all English people are "wankers" and "cunts". His lawyer was after all English. This was an unfortunate miscarriage of justice and should be despised on the basis of that not race.

Reading the comments here, knowing only of the Northern Ireland conflict as an American and from afar, I can see that there is still much bitterness. What a shame.

This movie feels very current, like it could have been made tomorrow.

If only Sheridan had made this film for that purpose. He made it as an attack upon the english and to promote the IRA as a defensive organisation. Not once in this film do we see any of the victims of the IRA. Given the fact that this film is about the state's response to IRA violence that is some acheivement!

This wasn't about being anti-English. This was about a law passed in the name of Terrorism, that was abused. It is about how people in power abuse that power supposedly in the name of justice. How fear pushes people to do things that they may not normally do and how the general public will approve of their behavior to satisfy their fear. This is what could happen in America if we aren't careful. Our Freedoms will be taken away in the name of Terrorism, if we aren't careful.

You can tell from the comments underneath the effect this film has on people and the effect it's supposed to have. If Sheridan was going to make a piece of anti-english propaganda then he could at least have chosen some other aspect of Irish history. To attack the British for how they responded to IRA terror is well below the belt!

It’s bizarre that you condemn people for actually reading up on something before commenting on it. If reading and understanding history is 'plagiarizing' then how should we understand the past and conflicts today? You certainly don’t base your views on any historical knowledge, you've proven that with the idiocy and inaccuracy of your statements. I know this is pointless, but understanding is surely preferable to blind hatred and bigotry? To which you will reply, 'douche bag' blah blah

I said YOU have no historical knowledge. You seem unable to understand anything that is said to you, your only response is abuse. And I'm not insulting Americans, I'm saying that's it ridiculous to lambast one set of people for ancient atrocities if your own country has also been guilty of similar crimes. If you aint American you are from Britain,Oz,NZ,Canada or Western Europe,(that much is clear from your language) to all of which the same argument applies to.Stop being such a childish arsehole.
