RollingStone.com senior editor Doree Shafrir sat down with Foster the People recently to chat about their sudden rise to fame, plans for their second record and MTV censoring their hit single "Pumped Up Kicks," which has dark lyrics about gun violence. "I think MTV is scared of an alternative band that has a sound like this. I think the sound is deceiving," says frontman Mark Foster. "You've got reality shows which are all about teenagers getting pregnant and you've got Jersey Shore, where a girl gets punched in the face and they show the clip over and over and over as a teaser to watch the show. It's like, oh, OK, domestic violence is fine but, like, talking about something like family values and teen isolation and bullying is not."Related• Band to Watch: Foster the People's Pumped-up Psych-Pop • Foster the People on the Benefits of Newfound Fame

  • This Rolling Stone employee should never interview anyone ever again.

  • If Mark tries to crowd-surf on me, no one is getting him back..

  • @LiivvyBelle How many school shootings have there been in America? That's what the songs about. A kid being bullied and wanting some revenge.

So you know whats going on in his head from watching a 5 min video? You arrogant prick.

  • OMG mark's eyes <3

  • censoring something is like eating a hot steamy pile of shit in front of strangers and saying "im not eating it" .......while eating it.

  • @video752 SAYS WHO "FTP" (get it ;D)

  • @cillafever you can't kidnap a singer

  • look at these awesome people MTV.... and then regret that u censored their awesomeness! <3 Foster the People deserves fame and glory... not Jersey Shore...

  • i wanna shout bullies

  • 2:13 ...LOL

  • @CANADA321FUN Thanks. :)

  • I do like this song, but he said the song was about getting in to the head of a kid thats been bullied, and kinda losing his mind. Since when does that mean, shooting people? He hasn't spoken about the fact that its implying that? And I would think if thats what comes to his head when thinking about bullying then he needs some help, seriously.
