This video chronicles a contemporary metamorphosis. It takes place in the hauntingly beautiful Boca Ciega Millennium Park in Seminole, Florida; and is the result of sculptor Leslie Fry's creation of intriguing sculptures which not only blend into the natural surround, but transform over time. The beauty of the sculptures reinforces the reality of the fragile natural habitat and provides an insight into the experience of closeness to nature, and of the mutability that underlies all things.

This public art project was sponsored by Pinellas County Cultural Affairs and includes six sculpture installations. A book and video were created to document the evolution of change, giving the project an "afterlife."

"The imagery and placement of the sculptures are designed to raise awareness about how humans impact the natural environment," said Fry. "The sculptures represent imaginary beings that reflect and integrate two worlds -- the constructed world that humans live in, and the natural world inhabited by the flora and fauna of the park."

  • Beautiful! I lived in Gainesville and Key Largo from 84-91. I miss the Spanish Moss something fierce. This is making me itch to go on a road-trip/pilgrimage with my daughter. You should upload this to My Art Space, too. Thanks for pointing me here.
