Happening Right Now!
At least 130 San Francisco firefighters battled a four-alarm fire Monday evening that engulfed two residential buildings and threatened a third in the city's Mission District.
The fire apparently started in the attic of a four-story wood building at 1470 Valencia St. between 25th and 26th streets in the Mission District of the city about 6 p.m.
At one point, flames as high as 25 to 30 feet shot through the roof of that structure. There were initial reports of people trapped, but firefighters did not immediately confirm whether there were any injuries.
A nearby Irish pub suffered significant water damage as fire crews struggled to keep the blaze from spreading further, witnesses said.
Large plumes of smoke were visible throughout much of the city, and from as far away as the San Bruno Mountains.
