I noticed this for the very first time after having seen this movie over and over for years and years, I even own it on DVD. I cannot believe they subjected that poor cat to all the loud noises like gun fire and explosions. You can see the shear terror in that cat's eyes. They should have used a prop for these scenes instead of the live kitty. It is shameful. I don't think I will ever be able to enjoy this film again.

You've got to give props to Donald Pleasence to not only keep a hold of the cat in that scene, but to keep on acting like nothing's happening. Having dealt with struggling cats (Usually when trying to put them in a carrier when taking them to the vet), it's like trying to hold a fish when they want to run away. And if the cat had back claws, I bet poor Pleasence felt the aftereffects of that long after the scene was over.

No, It's the real cat. It ran away and it couldn't be found for days after filming the scene.
