For Greenies takes a look at an award winning rammed earth house subdivision in Rotorua, New Zealand built by Master Builder Don Parkes and finds out about the ins and outs of the rammed earth house.
Don Parkes has spent a lifetime building houses in Rotorua, New Zealand. He has always been something of a 'greenie' and envronmentally friendly building materials including earth and recycled materials have always featured in his designs and buildings. One of the earth houses won a Monier Design Award in a NZ-wide competition in 1989, and his earth house subdivision made the NZIOB National Building Excellence Awards in 1995.

Did you do all the interior walls with rammed earth too?
ogwazza 9 months ago
@ogwazza It depends on his clients and what they want. You can do all the internal partition walls if you like for soundproofing and insulation between rooms, but that would create alot more work in the building process. Some people just have timber frame for the internal walls or maybe a mixture of both timber frame and rammed earth...

How do you go about making a curved wall?

@MrClayton2014 Just the same as a straight wall, only you use curved boxing.
