When writing this poem W. Terry Fox was the 'Poet Laureat of Cheshire'. Although their longest serving laureat, Terry was often in conflict with them because of his strong political views and the fact that he did not write sweet poems. For this piece he was asked to write a poem for Chesters Roman day, something he likens to Jersey having a Nazi day.
In the final months of his laureatship the county published a book of his poems, which they censored and changed without his permission. This was never acceptable to Terry and he subsequently disowned the publication.
