"Mad" Sam De Stefano, Outfit Enforcer, Home/Death Site The Chicago mob has been a haven for a number of legendary fearsome men in it's history. Sam De Stefano is one who was feared and disliked above all others. He was a sadistic psychotic who loved to torture those who ran afowl of him. One sign about how his fellow mobsters felt about him is the fact that his funeral procession consisted of a measly ten cars. Like a lot of future members of the Chicago outfit Sam got his start in the west sides notorious 42 gang. This youth gang had among the it's members; Sam Giancana, "Milwaukee" Phil Alderisio, Louis Fratto, Sam Battaglia and more. At first the Capone organization would use 42er's for an occasional job but they were considered too risky to have around. This changed after Sam Giancana began his rise in the Chicago outfit. Sam spent a great deal of time behind bars during the 1930's and 40's. It while he was doing a stretch in Leavenworth that he met Paul "The Waiter" Ricca who was doing time for the Hollywood extortion plot. After he got out of prison began his rise in the Chicago organization. He was the syndicates biggest juice loan maker and allowed to operate independently. This was because of his association with Accardo and Ricca the amount of corruption caused by his loan racket and the fact was he was to undisciplined to be made man. The man wore pajamas and like to torture people with an icepick. In this video we see the house on the quiet street near Harlem and North in far west Chicago. In it he had a soundproof chamber in his basement where he could work without disturbing his wife and kids. This was also where he met his demise cut down by two shot gun blasts in his garage by his own brother and Anthony "The Ant" Spolotro. This clip is part of a series produced by MindsiMedia and presented on ChiTownView 's YouTube station. We are getting some Chicago crime history in HBO's series "Boardwalk Empire" and more will be on display when the film version of Eric Larsen's "Devil In The White City". • Foreman was lying on the floor writhing in pain, although not fatally wounded. Suddenly Sam appeared, dressed in pajamas, and went right over to Foreman. Grabbing Foreman’s face, he cursed at him and told him he was going to be a blood sacrifice to Satan. After being viciously tortured, Foreman mercifully died. As DeStefano turned to leave, he looked down at the body and said, "Look. He’s got a smile on his face. Looks like he was glad to die.
