How does a Fresnel Lens create a flash? A flashing effect is achieved each time a segment of the rotating lens passes between the lamp and the observer. This lens has ten segments and flashes every five seconds when it was in operation. The rate of rotation determines the frequency of the flash and enables each lighthouse to have its own distinctive pattern by which it may be identified.
The First Order Fresnel lens at the lighthouse here flashes like lighthouses you see in cartoons; except a little bit slower!

Shouldn't the lamp be going clockwise?
