According to human rights groups and local reports, the five women were driven away to a desert area by men belonging to the Umrani tribe. The three teenage girls were hauled out, beaten and shot. Injured, but still alive, they were thrown into a ditch. When the two older women, aged 45 and 38, protested at what was happening, they were subjected to the same treatment. "All five women were connected," said Ali Dayan Hasan of Human Rights Watch.
The killings have been defended by politicians from Baluchistan. Reacting to a female colleague's attempt to raise the issue in parliament, Israrullah Zehri said such acts were part of a "centuries-old tradition" and he would "continue to defend them".
Questions have been raised about the involvement of local politicians in the incident. The Asian Human Rights Commission said that the brother of a provincial minister was "allegedly" among the tribesmen. "There is a political connection, but it is not certain what," added Mr Hasan

it is the right and privilege of all human beings to love and be loved. humans are not for sale rent or to the sum of a dowry. No one owns anyone else. God gave us free will. Why do we humans try to break or destory the will of another? Just because she is female. All living creatures on earth have a mother. Dont you want the mothers of the world to be happy, and not just a slave. God did not want this. Control is a form of violence. Stop the violence.
There is a greater percentage of women in Pakistan's National Assembly and Senate than there are in the US congress and Senate.....and even greater than most European countries...
You may look that fact up if you don't believe me.
thats an irrelevant fact. You can appoint as many women to government positions as you want but in the end they still cant marry who they want to. Its a charade to say 'look how equal opportunity we are' when in reality Pakistan gives women no rights.
"Pakistan gives women no rights" which law is it that denies women rights? There have been equal rights for women in Pakistan since it was founded, with the exception of a few discriminatory law which were passed by Zia-ul-Haq in the 1980s, which were repealed in later years as he was succeeded by a woman. I don't deny that there are some issues with women among the Public in Pakistan but your proposition is ridiculous....I'm assuming you've never been to Pakistan, so stop making assumptions.
According to a UN-study on Pakistan, girls recive less nourishment, healthcare and education than boys. According to Human Rights Commission of Pakistan 70-90 % of women have suffered some sort of domestic abuse including murder. Throwing acid on a "disobedient" woman didn´t even become a crime - attempted murder - until 2003 along with "vinni" = "bloodmarriage".
Pakistan National Assembly, of 342 seats 60 are reserved for women, 2006 figures; 72 seats heald by women. If full equal rights are ever to be achieved this figure needs to be 171. In comparison, Sweden had plenty of women in parliament in 1974, the year it finally became illegal for a husband to rape his wife.
Then why is it that there is a greater percentage of women in Pakistan's National Assembly and Senate than there are in the US congress and Senate?!!!???
