I just bought a brand new White's Classic 5 ID, nearly $400. They claim these things will detect coins, rings, etc, at 10-12".... WHAT A CROCK! Mine will only detect around 2-3" deep at best, except for large objects. If you seriously expect to locate rings, coins, etc, deeper than 3", start looking for a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow... you'll have better luck.

what is the best detector for the desert or parks?
I've just recently came across a whites coinmaster classic 2 metal detector at a yard sale for only $20.00. The fella selling it said it was old and didn't work that well anymore. I took it home & put new batteries in it to discover it still didn't work that well. I finally discovered the prb was a loose wire and I fixed it and it works fine now. I can't seem to find any information on this particular model. Can you tell me anything about it?

@GTM57
White's has manuals available online for most older models.
If you can't locate the manual for your Coinmaster, call the factory in
Oregon, 1-888-666-6121.
