Minnesota Walk Now for Autism Gallops Out of the Gate

On Saturday, September 20, 2,500 people walked the track at Canterbury Park, a thoroughbred racetrack in Shakopee, Minn. for the 2nd annual Minnesota Walk Now for Autism, raising $190,000. In a nod to the location, the Walk, which featured family-friendly entertainment and a large resource fair, was centered around a horse racing theme.

Dave and Pam from media sponsor KTIS Morning Show emceed the Walk and organized a team of more than 150 walkers. Walkers met ToysRUs Geoffrey the Giraffe and participated in a cheer led by the Minnesota Vikings cheerleaders. The Teddy Bear Band and Bob and the Beachcombers Band entertained walkers with musical performances.

The resource fair showcased 45 organizations and companies, including local service provider In the Company of Kids "Creative Arts Center" and Homebound Equestrian, which provided professional face painting.

Many generous sponsors including King Solutions and Deco contributed to the success of the Minnesota Walk Now for Autism. Special thanks to first-time Walk Chair Denise Kanieski and returning Walk Chair Chris Majkowski for making the 2nd annual Minnesota Walk such a success.
