@modernphotographer There is no lens cap. When shooting a blank subject, such as a wall or sky, there are 3 possibilities, depending on the manufacturer design. Examples: camera allows shutter release (Sony A900); camera stops AutoFocus and disallows shutter release (Nikon D3, D300, others); camera continues to AutoFocus, finding nothing (Canon - multiple models).

Im going to guess that the cap is on but after using both myself I will say the Sony is far faster and more accurate (and is sharper wide open) than the 5D mk 2

I'm a sony shooter, but it looked like the sony was pre focused and the canon had a lens cap on. Thats not a comparison.
